MISSION

Snow Jiu-Jitsu Academy's primary mission is to teach the revolutionary art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, with the desire to see students benefit and grow in as many ways possible. We would like to see a family bond form, where kids can develop strong friendships, social skills, discipline, and are able to identify with a team. The ideal would be for students, parents, and instructors to form a community of people of all ages and all backgrounds that would be organized like a team, but that would also act as a family- where respectful men and women become positive influences, examples, and mentors to younger students in need of guidance and wisdom.

HISTORY

Samuel Snow was a year into college when he began training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Jose Reyes, Alliance BJJ black belt. In the summer of 2006, Samuel went to Torrance, California to train at the Gracie Academy- owned by Rorion Gracie,
Grandmaster and founder of the UFC. There, he spent two weeks learning about the Jiu-Jitsu lifestyle, and training under Rener and Ryron Gracie, eldest sons of the legendary Rorion Gracie. He was very impressed with the way Rener and Ryron taught, and has studied their teaching methods and techniques in order to become a high caliber teacher. In 2007, Samuel was promoted to blue belt, and at the advice of his instructor, began teaching friends and family. He soon realized the importance of formal classes, an environment where a family of dedicated students and teachers could be formed. In September of 2007, the academy officially began a kids BJJ program and it grew rapidly. After being forced to turn away several adults, Samuel decided to start an adult program with the help of his younger brother, Jesse. In September of 2009, Samuel was promoted to BJJ purple belt after three years of training in the art. Samuel and Jesse are active competitors in BJJ and MMA, continuing to improve and gain experience in order to best teach and lead their students.

PHILOSOPHY

Snow Jiu-Jitsu teaches Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu that is rooted in the following principles:

1. Street Effectiveness
2. Natural Body Movements
3. The Efficient Use of Energy

Our school promotes respect, teamwork, positive thinking and attitude, self-discipline, self-confidence, relaxation, stress relief, fitness, flexibility, a healthy diet, and a lifestyle of humility and kindness.

Samuel and Jesse have not followed the commercial path of the modern day martial arts school. The ultimate goal of teaching the philosophy and principles of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is to build a family of humble, respectful, skilled, and confident men and women who invest in the community and in others. They wish to provide a safe haven for those desiring a place of stimulation, relaxation, and stress release- an environment in which one can thrive.
What matters to them most is seeing the student's full potential realized in Jiu-Jitsu and in life. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is not only the most effective combat and self-defense system ever developed, but a way of life that promotes the values of loyalty, discipline, respect, health, honor, and family. These values make up the core that is the Snow Jiu-Jitsu Academy.
